Tales From Uganda was established at the beginning of 2020 after the founders, Ramathan and Hannah Ziwa, searched for bilingual materials in Ugandan languages for their children. After realizing these materials were scarce and difficult to access, they started digitally documenting Ugandan folktales in Luganda and English. Tales From Uganda promotes bilingual literacy, celebrates Ugandan culture and languages, and retells Ugandan folktales for free on social media. The group is using the award to record storytellers in Masindi (Western Uganda) retelling folktales in their local languages and translating them into English.
