TARKIB Baghdad Contemporary Arts Institute is an arts organization created in 2015 by emerging artists in Iraqi. Its members come from different fields including visual art, performing art, interior design, graphic design, photography, film, scenography, music, literature, journalism and law. Their work focuses on empowering the youth and women, supporting artworks that connect art and everyday life, and explore new socio-cultural spaces. They organize the annual TARKIB Baghdad Festival for Contemporary Arts, as well as exhibitions and workshop series in contemporary arts.
Organized by TARKIB, Baghdad Walk is a group exhibition and guided tour with presentations by twenty-two young Iraqi artists. The artists connect their work to the locations, introducing background information on site. Stories about the city of Baghdad are told and retold anew through the artists’ perspectives and the encounters they create.
TARKIB received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2021 and are using the award to cover the production costs associated with the artwork. TARKIB received additional support from Cultures of Resistance in 2022 for their Baghdad Festival for Contemporary Arts.
