The future of Skateistan, Afghanistan’s first and only co-ed skateboarding school (founded in 2007) is in peril. At the program, girls have been given the same opportunities that are afforded to boys and have found a safe space where they can develop a sense of freedom. This short film shows the program in its prime. Sadly, with the return of the Taliban, the sense of possibility that girls gained by learning to skateboard may soon be a remnant of the past.
