Rajana Dorzhieva
Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Buryatia
Rajana Dorzhieva is an artist who was born in the city of Ulan-Ude, Republic of Buryatia. She works in collage and abstract art techniques. With the help of these techniques, she can express her emotions and feelings while carrying out creative research work. She has a great interest and inner need to study the Buryat cultural heritage.
In her work, she reinterprets the rich world of Buryat folklore and creates art by drawing inspiration from the past and interpreting it in a modern way. In her exhibition titled “Collage as a research method,” she released a project devoted to the study of the history and culture of the peoples of Buryatia. She created a series of twenty-one collages, where each collage was dedicated to a specific region in the Republic, reflecting the uniqueness of the area according to legends and tales. Dorzhieva also works with textile abstraction, where she lays a certain code for the culture of her people.
Dorzhieva received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2022 and is using the award to purchase art materials
