We need global action to stop acid attacks against women and girls!

These violent attacks are an expression of control over victims’ bodies and an attempt to ruin their lives forever. The most common reasons for acid attacks include refusal of marriage or sexual rejection. The Chhanv Foundation supports survivors in overcoming trauma by providing them long-term medical treatment, legal aid, education, and employment to enhance their lives.

In 2023, our sister organization, the Cultures of Resistance Network, was proud to support Chhanv Foundation’s fundraising drive to provide medical treatment for survivors of acid attacks.

Through our sister organization, the Cultures of Resistance Network, we are proud to provide full-tuition scholarships to fifty underprivileged female students at Birzeit University! This is our second year providing fifty full-tuition scholarships.

Birzeit University is a leading public educational institution in Palestine’s West Bank. Their programs educate over 15,000 students in science, technology, social policy, the arts, law, economics, and other fields. Birzeit University’s Women’s Studies Institute is among the first academic centers for studying gender founded in the Middle East, and it evolved from Palestine’s long history of women’s activism.

On February 26, Mendua was assassinated by hit men. Mendua was known for his work as a land defender and organizer against ongoing oil exploration on indigenous land. We express our condolences for the family and loved ones of Eduardo Mendau and demand justice in the investigation of his death.

Mendau had served as the Director of International Relations for the Confederation of Indigenous Nations of Ecuador (CONAIE). Our L/G foundation, has been proud to support the work of CONAIE via the Rainforest Action Network’s Community Action Grants.

Our latest Cultures of Resistance Awards recipient, Tony Fedorko, is a Slovakian filmmaker who is working on a series of short documentaries called “Varím z Farmy” (“I am cooking from a farm”). The series features Slovak farms, highlighting their troubles and everyday experiences. The goal of the series is to encourage people to buy from local farms, which are unable to compete with large supermarkets.

‘Issue One contains traces from those who have helped build becoming.press, it is a gathering of authors and artists who each expressed something they felt relevant and important to the moment. Existing more as a material tracing of a collision of people, Issue One is an issue without theme, as it focused more on building the necessary community and developing our ability to organise together. Nonetheless, there is this paradoxical disjunctive harmony; a subtle emergence of a distinct yet still-unformed voice that sets the scene for future issues.

Sports make us more — more determined, more powerful, more ourselves! The Challenge Team is a community of 35 amputees in Idlib, Syria that participates in weekly sports activities. Founded three years ago, the team is the latest recipient of our Cultures of Resistance Awards! The award will support their quest to buy better equipment such as crutches and jerseys, and to pay to rent their local stadium to play football every week. In addition, the Challenge Team is working to support members whose homes were destroyed in the recent earthquakes in Syria.

Ascend is an organization that supports female mountain climbers through mountaineering-based leadership training and community service projects. After the Taliban took power, they worked to help resettle their Afghan alumni in new countries around the world. The degradation of Haiti's environment is a major contributor to poverty for people who rely on the land and its related ecosystems for their livelihoods. Every student deserves the right to clean water! We are excited that The Usmania Rustam Khel primary school in Maidan Wardak province, Afghanistan has been able to drill a new water well with our support! Now the water is available for students to drink and wash with, with the runoff being used to irrigate trees on school property. They have also been able to install solar panels, a pump, cables, and a water pipe to bring water to the school! Special thanks to @james_b_longley for overseeing this project for us while he was in Afghanistan working on film pre-production. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

One looming threat to the underwater ecosystem is deep sea mining. Deep sea mining companies are currently lobbying to go down several thousand meters below the surface of the ocean to plunder the seabed for metals.
