Ninelia Abrhamian

Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Iran/Armenia
Ninelia Abrhamian was born in Isfahan, Iran in an Armenian, Christian family. Abrhamian painted and did photography from a young age, and participated in exhibitions as a teenager. In her 20s, she struggled with depression and began to focus on social work in her community. Most recently, she has returned to art again and set up her own studio. She currently lives in Iran, but often returns to her homeland of Armenia.
Abrhamian’s work includes a photo project of Frida Kahlo that reflects her interests in visual arts and fashion. She is currently working on a set of projects related to mental health, including a collection of portraits.
Abrhamian received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2022 and is using the award to purchase a digital camera to use for her work.
