Our latest documentary is premiering in Finland!

May 20, 2019

Thrilled to announce that our latest documentary, WANTOKS: Dance of Resilience in Melanesia, will have its world premiere on May 26th in FINLAND at HELSINKI’s maailma kylässä World Village Festival, a weekend event that gathers 80,000 people in attendance! The film profiles artists and activists on the islands of Melanesia, in the South Pacific, who are fighting for self-determination while trying to defend their homes against rising sea levels and the effects of climate change. You can check out the trailer here, RSVP here, and more info about the festival is here. All events below are with the presence of director iara lee and editor Dimo Petkov, who will speak with audience members, answer questions, and build solidarity.

In conjunction with the WANTOKS screenings, we will present Vlad Sokhin’s Photo exhibition WARM WATERS: the effects of climate change on the Pacific region communities at the Market of Possibilities Tent, Kaisaniemi Park, Helsinki.

We are pleased that last year, each of our films screened in more than 100 countries! We’re aiming to do the same with WANTOKS, using grassroots distribution to audiences who are interested and engaged. If you would like to organize a screening in your community or show the film at a festival or event, please contact us at info@culturesofresistancefilms.com. WANTOKS is a great tool for discussions about climate disaster, state violence, colonialism, and occupation, and we are pleased to work with local artists and activists to help spread the word!
