Instituto Favela da Paz

Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Brazil
Instituto Favela da Paz was founded by Claudio Miranda in Jardim Angela, a nortorious favela in São Paulo that was once labeled by the UN as among the world’s most violent neighborhoods. In the early 2000s, Claudio Miranda started the institute with a few friends, first as a musical project. It now serves as a cultural and educational center that provides hundreds of youths with alternatives to the dangers of drugs and violence. The institute has a number of workshops for young people on topics including music, urban permaculture, renewable energy solutions, community building, and peace studies.
Instituto Favela da Paz received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2024.
