Ifeoma Fafunwa

Cultures of Resistance Awards — Nigeria
Ifeoma Fafunwa is a social impact theatre-maker living and working in Lagos, Nigeria. She is the founder and creative director of iOpenEye, a  non-profit theater production company. Her creative activism focuses on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. She co-wrote and directed the acclaimed stage play HEAR WORD! which challenges social, cultural, and political norms that limit the contributions of women. HEAR WORD! has been viewed by more than 100,000 live audience members across Nigeria and internationally. After touring in Nigeria, the show opened at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, The Public Theater in Manhattan, the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, and was curated for the Edinburgh International Festival 2019.
Fafunwa received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2022.
