Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Tanzania

HIMD was founded in 2003 to promote health education in Tanzania to rural and marginalized groups. HIMD aims to educate youth on sexual and reproductive health, particularly the dangers of early exposure to unwanted pregnancies. HIMD also seeks to educate the community through public campaigns about cultural traditions, beliefs, and taboos that discriminate against women and girls. Through their Safe House Program, HIMD aims to provide safe housing to girls facing gender-based violence, including forced marriage and female genial mutilation. 

HIMD received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2023.
