Hargeysa Cultural Center
Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Somaliland
The Hargeysa Cultural Center was opened August 2014 in Hargeysa, Somaliland by the Redsea Cultural Foundation (RCF). The center features a library, reading rooms, a gallery, two public event spaces, and a shaded outdoor café space. The center’s public library holds over 15000 titles, including books, journals, magazines, e-books, and cassettes, including resources unavailable elsewhere in Somaliland. The center regularly hosts film screenings, public talks and discussions, book launches, musical performances, and theater performances, including a weekly children’s program. The center also serves as a hub for students, scholars, artists, and musicians, and it has also undertaken a variety of collection and archival projects essential to the study and preservation of Somaliland culture and history.
The Hargeysa Cultural Center received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2022 and will be using the award to support new trainings in filmmaking and scriptwriting.
