CULTURES OF RESISTANCE FILMS PRESENTS

RESISTANCE ARTIST KATIBE 5

Katibe 5 carries forward a long tradition of blending rap and resistance. A Palestinian hip-hop group formed in the Burj al-Barajneh refugee camp in Lebanon, the artists use their music to publicize the plight of refugees and to issue a resolute call for the freedom and self-determination of the Palestinian people. In this short film, Cultures of Resistance interviews Katibe 5 in Beirut, discussing their efforts to carve out a space of resistance in a place where “a microphone… is better than the Kalashnikov.”
