Alaa Abd El-Fattah

Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Egypt
Alaa Abd el-Fattah is arguably the most high-profile political prisoner in Egypt, if not the Arab world, rising to international prominence during the revolution of 2011. A fiercely independent thinker who fuses politics and technology in powerful prose, Alaa is an activist whose ideas represent a global generation which has only known struggle against a failing system. His writings on democracy, the law, labor and technology have led to his persecution by the Egyptian regime, and he has been in prison for most of the past 10 years.
A 2022 Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) will be used towards the promotion of his book You Have Not Yet Been Defeated.
