Cesar López

Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Colombia
Colombian Cesar López transforms Kalishnikov war weapons into guitar peace instruments (he calls them escopetarra). He has dedicated himself to working towards human rights in his home country of Colombia, which continues to overcome more than 50 years of war and social injustice. For example, his project 24-0 organizes artistic interventions and teaching sessions for 24 uninterrupted hours every year with the aim of reducing violent deaths. It is just one of López’s many projects which touch on art, music, literature and other creative fields.
Cesar López received a Cultures of Resistance Award(CoR Award) in 2021 and will be using the award for a project related to music and providing people with instruments instead of weapons. Cesar was featured in our film CULTURES OF RESISTANCE.
