Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Brazil
Michel Coeli is a director and photographer who previously created a successful travel documentary series which ran for ten seasons on Brazil’s largest TV news channel, “GloboNews.” Later, he traveled around the world as a documentary journalist covering environmental issues such as ivory poaching in Kenya, whale hunting in the Faroe Islands, and the Green Wall project aimed at minimizing the growth of the Sahara desert in Senegal. During the 2013 demonstrations in Brazil sparked by deepening inequality, Coeli made the short film “No Olho Do Furacão,” which went viral with over 4 million views and was featured in the Washington Post, Huffington Post, and CNN. In 2020, Michel made “Symphony of Survival,” a documentary film about the Panantal wetlands fires. 
Michel Coeli receivied a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2024. He is using the award to promote “Symphony of Survival.”
