Cultures of Resistance Awardee — Nigeria
Konboye Ebipade Eugene is an artist and environmental activist based in Nigeria. Konboye’s artistic endeavors began in 2017 when a college assignment sparked his passion for repurposing discarded plastic flip-flop sandals into colorful portraits. Konboye sources his material from dump sites, landfills and riverbanks, before transforming them into intricate portraits. Konboye’s studio is located in the city of Abeokuta, in the southwest state of Ogun. His studio functions as a community hub, where Konboye mentors aspiring artists and leads workshops on transforming recyclable materials into art.
Konboye received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2024. Konboye is using the award to support recyclable art projects.
