Ali Saleh al-Taha

Cultures of Resistance Awardee – Syria
Ali Saleh al-Taha is an archaeologist from Palmyra, Syria who relocated to Aleppo after the Islamic State took over Palmyra and destroyed the city’s ancient Roman ruins. Working from a rented workshop, Ali used his memory and publicly available photographs to meticulously recreate the ruins of Palmyra using plaster. Ali’s hope is that the children of Palmyra will remember the ruins and the rich history of their city.
Ali Saleh al-Taha received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2023.
