Cultures of Resistance Awardee – Syria

Ahmad Dawara is a boxer from Aleppo, Syria. Displaced by the ongoing violent conflict in his country, Ahmad found himself in Atarib, the western countryside near the city. In a bombed-out location, he began mentoring and training 22 children in the art of boxing. In the process, he has brought joy and a sense of relief to these young people grappling with the trauma of war and displacement. 

Ahmad received a Cultures of Resistance Award (CoR Award) in 2023. He used the award to buy more boxing equipment for his students.
